The Banks IV, 74 x 65 x 2 inches, mixed media on canvas.
The Banks Series explores ways to express the atmosphere, light, and changing colors along the Chattahoochee River, its banks, creeks, and wetlands. The work, in mixed media, on paper, wood panels, and stretched canvas emanates from my poem The Banks, which uses the river and its changing banks as a metaphor to explore time, memory, and connection to my early years in Dublin along the banks of the River Liffey that flows through Dublin westward toward the Shannon.
It is interesting and indeed challenging to work on small pieces, 12×12 inches, and move to a painting of this size and keep the looseness and application of color and texture spontaneously.
